The City of Lights is known for its expansive resorts, casinos and entertainment district. It’s also known for its intense heat. If your Las Vegas air conditioner is blowing warm air, you’ll need an air conditioning repair pronto. Read on to learn a few of the reasons why your air conditioning system is blowing heat instead of cool, comfortable air.

Dirty Filter

The most common cause of warm air blowing through your home’s vents in the sweltering Las Vegas summers is a dirty air filter. The air filter is located in the air handling unit. It typically has its own housing or cabinet. The housing door opens with screws or a clamp. Be sure to access the air filter once a month. If you see a layer of dirt on it, replace it. If you’re not sure of the best size or minimum efficiency reported value (MERV) rating for a filter, our technicians can help.

Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant leaks are also a cause of air conditioners blowing hot air, explains the Department of Energy. If too much of the coolant leaks out of the closed-loop system, it won’t be able to transfer heat out of your home. However, the air handler will still run and blow hot air through your home’s vents. Once too much of the refrigerant leaks, the air conditioner’s safety limit switch will shut down the cooling system.

Frozen Evaporator Coil

A lack of maintenance may cause the evaporator coil to freeze. When the evaporator coil gets too cold, condensation freezes on it. This layer of ice interferes with the refrigerant’s ability to absorb heat and transfer it out of your home. Because the frozen evaporator coil interferes with heat transfer, your air handler will blow hot air through your home.
